일본 도쿄에 등장한 터치스크린 자판기

이제 버튼으로 누르는 것보다 터치스크린 방식에 의해 선택하는 기기들에 많이 익숙해지고 있는 것 같습니다. 한 예로 은행에 가면 ATM 기기를 터치스크린 방식으로 선택하는 것을 손쉽게 접할 수가 있을텐데요. 이번에는 흔히들 거리에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 터치스크린 방식의 자판기가 등장했다고 하는데요. 사진에서 보이는 이 자판기가 바로 그것입니다. 이 자판기는 실제로 일본의 도쿄 시나가와역에서 운영이 되고 있다고 합니다. 47인치의 대형 디스플레이를 통해 진열된 상품이 보이는데 터치 방식을 통해 음료수를 선택할 수 있습니다. 아무튼 진화된 방식의 자판기라고 할 수 있겠는데요. 앞으로 이런 자판기를 더 추가를 할 예정이라고 합니다. 아무튼 좀 일반적인 자판기보다는 호화(?)스러운 것 같기도 하지만 광고등 여러 방면으로 활용가치가 있어 보입니다. 아래의 갤러리에서 참고해 보세요.

Sony's Ultimate Weapon Gaming headsets are as macho as the name suggests

According to Sony, your Ultimate Weapon when it comes to schooling fools on the FPS battlefield is a 3D surround sound headset. Just like its newly minted DR-GA500 above, what a coincidence! Coming with a separate box to process your computer's audio into a 7.1-channel surround sound environment, this mic-equipped set of cans is targeted squarely at gamers looking to optimize every last inch of their fragging experience. There's also a GA-200 model that makes do without the extra audio processing. Both variants share the super special "triple enfolding" padding design, which is intended to make the headgear comfortable for prolonged use. Prices and retail dates aren't yet available, but just to underline that gaming connection one extra time, Sony will be bundling a free copy of the latest Medal of Honor with these 'phones starting in mid-October.

Stand Up And Retract Your Pens

Upright & retract: the two new mantras for a dowdy marker pen; too amusing and cute! What we have here is the Upstanding Retractable Markers, a set of sketch markers that stay upright (think Weeble Wobbles) and have a retractable nib. This saves you the trouble of leaking nibs, but I seriously recommend a cap for keeping the color-stick dust-free and moist. Somehow the idea of pens lined upright on a desk makes me wonder, how many will become Humpty Dumpty and have a great fall!

Nixiedoku

John Sarik's stunning Sudoku game is built around 81 vintage Nixie tubes. It uses an Arduino microcontroller board and a couple of knobs to select the digit, along with a keypad for numeric entry. There's also a videoshowing the beast recursively solving a puzzle - not fast or elegant, but beautiful. He's even provided all of the design files (schematics, boards, source code, and case design) in case you'd like to try your hand at building one for your evil mad scientist lair.

Porsche 918 Spyder confirmed for production

Porsche has announced that the 918 Spyder, presented as a concept at the last Geneva Motor Show, will be produced in a limited series. The mid-engined hybrid sportscar will be manufactured in Germany, while technical specs and prices will be disclosed in the coming months.

The Porsche 918 Spyder was first presented as aconcept car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The Sportscar features a hybrid powertrain with a 500 hp high-speed V8 and electric motors on the front and rear axle.

The 918 Spyder combines extreme performances (top speed of 320 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds) with CO2 emissions of just 70 g/km and a fuel consumption of 94.1 mpg (3.0 litres/100 km) on the NEDC.

The production 918 Spyder will be developed in Weissach and assembled in a limited series at the at the Zuffenhausen plant, Stuttgart.

Further details will be disclosed closer to launch date.

마음에 드는 양념병이 없어...
환경이 바뀌면 그 공간을 채우는 물건들이 환경에 어울리면 다행이지만 꿔다 놓은 보릿자루처럼 전혀 생뚱맞게 보일 수도 있다. 작년 가을즈음 새로운 집으로 이사를 갔는데, 주방의 싱크대며 홈바가 "하이글로시 화이트"로 꾸며져 있는터라 예전 집의 우드톤 주방에서 사용하던 주방용품들이 완전 따로 놀고 있다. 사실 웬만하면 우드와 화이트는 잘 어울리기 마련인데, 이상하게도 이 집에서는 쓰던 주방 소품들이 둥둥 떠다니는 것 처럼 보였다. 그래서 주방 용품을 헌팅하기위해 찾아나선 공장장은 결국 "양념병"만 구입하지 못하고 돌아왔던 경험이 있다. 수천년의 역사를 지닌 양념병... 인간이 먹고 사는 이상 지구가 멸망할 때 까지 줄기차게 개발되고 만들어질 양념병일진데 정작 막상 사려고 하면 살만 한게 없다니... 내가 너무 눈이 높은건가? (하긴... 괜찮다 싶으면 수십만원이긴 했다) 
지저분한 건 딱 싫어!

주방과 잘 어울리는 것은 둘째치고 기존의 양념병들에는 고질적인 문제점들이 있는데, 소금이나 후추같은 양념들이 습기를 먹게되면 양념병 안에서 딱딱하게 굳어지거나 맛이 변하기도 하고, 손맛을 중요하게 여기는 요리 관습으로 손에 양념이 묻은 상태에서 양념병을 집어들 경우가 많아 양념병이 쉽게 오염되기도 한다. 공장장은 양념병이 가진 여러 문제점들 중에서 이 두가지에 포커스를 맞춰 새로운 개념의 양념병을 생각해 보게 되었고 아래 이미지와 같은 "THE SHAKER"를 제안한다.

THE SHAKER는 뚜껑이 자동으로 열렸다가 닫힌다. 양념병을 사용하려고 집어드는 순간 열리고, 다 사용하고 난 후에 내려놓으면 자동으로 닫히는 것이다. 보통 요리를 할 때 한 손은 조리 도구를 쥐고 있다거나 음식 안에 손이 들어가 있는 경우가 많은데, 한 손으로 게다가 뚜껑을 여는 동작없이 집어 들기만 하여도 뚜껑이 열리게 함으로써 양념병의 오염을 최소화하고 편리하고 빠르게 요리를 할 수 있도록 했다.

어떤 원리로 THE SHAKER를 집어 들기만 해도 뚜껑이 자동으로 열리는 지는 양념병을 집어드는 순간을 묘사한 애니메이션을 보면 쉽게 이해할 수 있다. 우선 양념병은 뚜껑과 양념이 담기는 상부 파트와 그 밑에 삽입되는 하부 파트로 나뉘는데, 하부 파트는 내부 스프링에 의해 상부 파트로부터 밀려나고 하부 파트와 뚜껑이 기다란 링크로 연결되어 하부 파트가 스프링에 의해 밀려남과 동시에 뚜껑을 잡아 당겨 열게 된다. 반대로 양념병을 내려 놓으면 자중(자체 무게)에 의해 하부 파트가 상부 파트 속으로 다시 들어가게 되고, 링크를 밀어줌으로써 뚜껑이 닫히는 것이다. 이 때, 양념병의 자중(mg)이 스프링의 탄성력(kx)보다는 커야 이와 같은 작동이 가능하다. (아래 단면도는 컨셉에 대한 이해를 돕기 위한 샷이므로 살두께가 두껍니, 언더컷이니, 조립이 안되니 하지는 말자!)
세심한 배려
자동으로 열리고 닫히는 THE SHAKER의 뚜껑 안쪽에는 메디컬 그레이드 실리콘 러버로 만든 실링 캡(sealing cap)이 부착되어 뚜껑을 두번 덮어주는 역할을 하므로 양념병에 공기/습기가 들어가서 양념이 굳어버리거나 맛이 변하는 현상을 지연시킨다. 또한 양념의 종류나 양념 입자의 크기에 따라 뿌려지는 양을 조절할 수 있는 다양한 패턴의 캡도 함께 제공되므로 감동은 두배이다. 세계 최초(맞나?) 자동 뚜껑 양념병 "THE SHAKER"... 이정도면 특허도 바라볼 수 있지 않을까? 아님 말구... EarlyFactory
